An 8-Bit Fantasy Come True

As kids in the eighties and nineties we dreamed of being zapped into the worlds our favourite 8-bit creations. Now, thanks to Aled Lewis, we get a glimpse of what our world would look like if the pixelated heroes and villains of classic video games were able to roam in reality.

The pixel-art images were featured on Lewis’ Behance page with the following statement:

“A mash-up of video game characters and photographic scenes. As a kid I would become completely immersed in there crude pixel environments and they would seem very real! I thought it would be fun to try to express how gamers see these worlds. I spent many hours gaming with my siblings and friends when I was growing up and this aesthetic has really come to represent that time.”

What video game character do you want to see come to life?

The Secret Behind Victoria’s Secret Models: Photoshop

Victoria's Secret Photoshop 1

Left: the unretouched original. Right: the final Photoshopped image. Changing the colors of garments in post-production (1) is one of the most common image edits; the transparency of the tankini fabric was also reduced with the recoloration. The photograph's colors were brightened in general (2) and lighting errors were corrected. Part of Kroes' back below her armpit has also been removed (3), as have the expression lines on her face (4). The hemline of the swimsuit bottoms has also been redrawn (5).

In August, Jezebel got a hold of some photos from a Victoria’s Secret photo shoot with supermodel Doutzen Kroes. What’s interesting about these particular photos is that Victoria’s Secret had accidentally published the photos in their raw format, without retouching them in Photoshop, as is common in the industry when they’re released to the public. So when the photos were actually published in the brand’s catalog, Jezebel was able to do some before and after photos to show just what kinds of photo manipulation is done to beautify the already beautiful models. Take a look through our gallery to see what kind of editing is done, and let us know what you think in the comments.
