¡Hola! Me llamo Snapsort.

Hallo! Mein Name ist Snapsort.

Olá! Meu nome é Snapsort.

Ciao! Il mio nome è Snapsort.

Snapsort  now speaks your language! Snapsort has helped nearly 70 million people around the world find the right camera for them. Snapsort lets consumers compare any two cameras head-to-head and understand which camera is best based on specs, reviews, benchmarks and features.

We have launched Snapsort in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian, in addition to English, which provides the majority of our users with local pricing and comparisons in languages of their choice. We’re also excited to share that LensHero now also offers multilingual capabilities, allowing you to find the right lens for your camera.

We’re also excited to announce the new Gallery feature on Snapsort. We have gathered nearly 70,000 photos from around the web, taken by nearly 2000 different cameras and 500 different lenses. The photo gallery on a particular camera’s page will allow you to view the image quality of photos under different shooting conditions. We have included all the available EXIF data.

We are always working on improving Snapsort – let us know if you have any feedback on our new galleries and languages.

Thieves Steal $600,000 of Camera Gear from LensProToGo

Over the past weekend, thieves stole some 300 items of camera equipment from the photography rental folks at LensProToGo.com. As you can see from the picture below, there is always a limit to how safe you can keep your gear against a determined thief!

LensProToGo’s storage facility after the robbery

LensProToGo is asking people to be on the look for their stolen gear, particularly people around the Concord, MA area. They’ve published the entire list of stolen items and serial numbers. Throughout the ordeal, they’ve moved quickly to source alternative rentals for customers and maintained an upbeat presence in social media.

Remember, if a deal seems too good to be true–it probably is!

While we at Snapsort hope that you and your gear are together forever, the sad reality is everyone is at risk of theft. So what can you do?

1. Protect yourself by registering your serial numbers. The handy LensTag app lets you publicly record your ownership and serial numbers.

2. Refuse to buy stolen gear. If a deal’s too good to be true, it probably is. Ask for proof of ownership when buying, and consider checking against public databases of stolen gear.

Stop the Camera Wars With Camera Showdown

canoneos60DvNikonD7000Today  we are excited to announce the launch of our newest website, Camera Showdown. For years, the Snapsort team has been helping people decide which camera would be the best to buy, but we wanted a way to go beyond specs and focus on the real life performance of popular cameras.

We wanted to create a way to go beyond specs and allow you to compare and choose a camera based on real-world photos taken by real people. Could photographers take the same quality photo with an iPhone 5 as they do with a Nikon D3100? Find out on Camera Showdown, the results may surprise you. You can also check out results for popular DSLR comparisons like the D5100 vs T4i.

We gather photos from around the web and find similar pictures based on tags, image orientation and EXIF settings. We then offer up pairs of photos based on the collected data.

With Camera Showdown you can:

  • Do a blind comparison of pictures from popular cameras, like a Pepsi Taste Challenge for cameras.
  • Compare your results with other users and see how they stack up to yours.
  • Share your results and challenge your friends on Facebook and Twitter

Check out Camera Showdown, take the challenge and see if you pick your favorite camera as the best.
